PETstock stores across Australia encouraged pet owners to take part in the Great Microchip Blitz on the 19th and 20th November 2016 to combat the issue of un-microchipped pets arriving at pounds and shelters.
Despite the majority of Australian states and territories mandating compulsory microchipping, PETstock estimated that up to 80–90 per cent of cats were not microchipped when they became lost.
The Great Microchip Blitz encouraged all pet parents to microchip their furry friends by offering $10 microchipping at any PETstock store nationally over the weekend.
The weekend saw 8210 microchips implanted by vets and qualified implanters. An event of this size also required a large number of volunteers to assist with paperwork and organisation on the day. More than 890 volunteers offered their time to this one of a kind event.
