National Pet Adoption Day Ambassador,
Giaan Rooney
Giaan first met her dog Lester when he was being cared for by a vet at Lort Smith Animal Hospital. It was love at first sight. Lester was quite terrified of small children when he first joined Giaan at home (understandable as his leg was run over by a child on a bike and resulted in amputation). When Giaan's first 'human' child was born, Lester was protective, curious and sweet right from the start, as he was again when the second came along.
"Despite being one leg short, Lester was the perfect dog: obedient, easy to train, loving and grateful. He gave me so much and wanted so little in return. His passing last year still makes me tear up today. Our family will certainly be rescuing again when we're ready for a new pet and I encourage all would-be owners looking for a pet to consider adoption." – National Pet Adoption Day Ambassador, Giaan Rooney
Giaan is a passionate advocate of pet adoption, having been a long-time ambassador to Lort Smith Animal Hospital and rescuing five pets (and counting). An Olympic Gold Medallist and darling of Australian Swimming, Giaan retired from the pool in 2006 to forge a successful career as a TV presenter.
