PETstock Cairns opened its doors for trade in March 2008. Owned by Michael Hurst, his decision to leave his teaching career was based on the motivation to start and support a family with his wife. ‘Hursty’ (as he is known to everyone) taught me during my secondary education so a prior relationship was already there, but starting a business and developing new relationships from the ground up has been an amazing opportunity. It has been great to see a culture of fun, close relationships, hard work and sales develop amongst this new team! I definitely feel privileged to have witnessed the growth PETstock Cairns and the Hurst Family have experienced to this date! In our short lifespan we have been extremely lucky to experience low staff turnover; this is something we are proud of and means that every time you visit us you can expect friendly and familiar faces ready to lend a hand.
We are proud to offer Cairns’ largest range of dog, cat, fish, bird, reptile, poultry and small animal food as well as flea, tick and worming treatments, and plenty of treats and toys to keep your four legged friends happy, healthy and out of trouble.
We also happily support the local RSPCA shelter through donations and sponsorship of the Million Paws walk, and NQ Animal Rescue regularly have cats in store for adoption. In the past we have also helped with the fundraising for Cat Re-Homing and Australian Working Dog Rescue. This year, in partnership with the Cairns Road Runners, we will be hosting the Canine Challenge on the Esplanade – a 3 or 5km running race with your dog/s (Million Paws walk on steroids!!!!). Annually we also support the Tropical Pride Festival and several other community groups and schools.
Next time you are nearby drop in and say hi – bring your mate too, leashed pets are always welcome. Taras Jakubovsky – Manager
